Initial and Long-term Weight Loss Success

Developed by leading researchers from the U.S. and Europe, Wellspring UK is among the most effective weight loss programmes for children and adolescents. In the summer of 2008, Wellspring UK students averaged weight loss of over 2.0 kg. per week. A number of students lost nearly 20 kg. during the course.

Wellspring UK is focused on long-term success, not just weight loss while at the programme. In fact, over 70% of participants in Wellspring courses from the summers of 2004, 2005 , 2006 and 2007 maintained or continued weight loss 9 months after returning home.

Wellspring is on the historic and beautiful campus of King’s Bruton in the heart of the Somerset flats. With renovated classrooms and boarding houses along with extensive fitness and training facilities, Wellspring offers every teen and young adult ages 11 – 24 the opportunity to lose weight, and keep it off long-term.

On campus, we utilise the first-rate facilities for delicious and nutritious food, nutrition and culinary instruction, team sports, personal training, and fun with staff and friends. From here, we venture into South Somerset, as we explore the local rivers, coastline, towns, and beautiful countryside. There is a reason people from all over the United Kingdom, Europe, and the Middle East come to Somerset for their holiday—the location and scenery offer an amazing opportunity to explore and get active. From cycling, climbing, scrambling, and kayaking, the area offers an active lifestyle.

Unlike other traditional weight loss camps, fat camps, or weight loss clinics, Wellspring offers a approach to teen diet and fitness that is simple, scientific, and sustainable. Wellspring UK includes a Lower Camp for ages 11 – 18 years old, plus an Upper Camp for young adults aged 18 – 24. Both Upper and Lower Camps are geared to the capabilities and expectations of that age group to maximize effectiveness.

Of course, our focus is not simply weight loss, but on changing behaviour so the weight loss continues. This is where the scientific programme design comes into play. Through intensive training and cognitive-behavioural therapy, Wellspring professionals and behavioural coaches work with each participant to adopt new, healthy coping skills, increase frustration tolerance, work through underlying issues that might be contributing to weight gain, and change behaviour.
