Weight Loss at Camp

Students who attended Wellspring Camps during the summers of 2004 to 2007 lost an average of 2 kg.. per week during four- and eight-week courses, or an average of 8 kg. for four weeks, 16 kg. for eight weeks. This is the highest recorded weight loss of any weight loss summer programme for adolescents.
Continued Weight Loss at Home

More importantly, Wellspring students CONTINUE LOSING WEIGHT after the course ends - an unprecedented outcome for weight loss programmes.
In post-camp weight loss evaluations that occur 6-12 months after completion of the programme Wellspring students continue to lose weight, averaging 2-4 kg. of additional weight loss beyond the weight lost at camp. Not only are students maintaining their weight loss, most continue to lose more weight. According to this programme evaluation by researchers, 76% of Wellspring students either maintain or continue to lose weight during the follow-up period.
Wellspring is more effective than other programmes due to the focus on changing the underlying behaviours that are contributing to the weight gain. Programmes that do not focus on behavioural change will not achieve the results that Wellspring achieves.
